A space to just be an unapologetically badass woman, whatever that means to you.
In June of 2021, I had the fortune to stay in the St. Pancras hotel in London. If you're a Spice Girls fan (honestly who isn't), you'll know the epic staircase from 'Wannabe.' While exploring the grounds I came across a room called the Ladies Smoking Room. This image of women flocking to the smoking room to gossip, discuss how to 'manipulate' their male counterparts, decompress away from the scrutiny of the male gaze and frankly just be, felt both liberating and fascinating. How many of these women truly influenced the huge political and societally affairs of the time? How beautiful the tradition of women gathering has been?
A few months later I went through a break up and thought back to that feeling I had when I came across the room. That feeling that women have always had to rely and turn to other women for support throughout their lives. The feeling that you were truly defined as a women once you entered that room and how empowering that feeling could be.
Now there's another part of this concept I whole heartedly connect with which is the sexiness and rebelliousness that the visual of smoking woman evokes. The idea of indulging in the "thou shall nots," of society.
This is why I chose the name the Ladies Smoking Room.
This is your smoking room. These rules are here so every woman
who walks in feels valued, celebrated, and free to just be.
